Week 8 - Production Day

The last production day was not that productive as we expected. We were in the same editing room but the first problem was that we were not ready with the group film and we were just talking about it. Our plan was not finished at all because some people from our group were not agree with the whole Interview thing. Most of the people were editing their works so we realized that we do not have enough time to do it. We decided to book a camera for the following day as we could re-shoot some of our individual scenes which were not good for academic work. We should get back on the track and be more focused on our work in order to be satisfied.

Week 7 - Production Day

This week was focused mainly on the different types of lighting. For this aim our lesion was held in a big dark studio with coaches and a lot of free space in order to adjust our lighting effects. We also were given red heads which will be very important when we start making the interview for the group film. My group had some issues with the camera - the cable was not able to connect with the hard-drive so we went to Hires and Loans and asked for another one. As always, they helped us. When everything was fixed we came back to work and learnt very important things about the light and what kind of shots the different types of interviews need.

Week 6 - Production Day. Sound.

On Thursday we had our first production day. I was a little concerned about it but is came to be very interesting and useful thing ti do. At first there was e brief introduction and explanation about the second assignment's requirements. Then we saw a very good presentation about Audio Recording and different types of microphones. We learned how to do a sound check and during the rest of the morning session we were practicing with mics and cameras. For me, adjusting the audio settings were not that difficult as adjusting the camera settings. In the end, me and my group started planning strategies and coming up with ideas for the group film.

Week 5 - Camera 2

In the morning session we were given a camera and we had to make different types of shots: GV, MS, LS.  Also we received a review for our individual films together with a story board and a risk assessment. I came up with a basic idea and draw it on my story board but we decided to shoot another day because we were only 2 girls from our group. So we booked a camera and tripod for Tuesday. When it comes to the risk assessment, I decided to leave it for later when I gain more information.

Week 4 - Editing 3

The forth week was maybe the first biggest challenge for me and my group. After shooting last week, now we had to edit the rushes which weren't that professional. Our first problem was connected with uploading the files from the hard disc to a computer. Also one person of our group was missing so we have more work to do which on one side is better for our development skills but on the other it's not justly so I hope in future we will become more organized and hard-working.
I learnt how to import my files on Avid, how to add subtitles, how to burn a DVD and also how to add a VT clock to my movies. Despite the difficulties, I am sure that this was one of the most important lesson we had so far not just because of the fact we used more recognizable tools for me but also because we will urgently need this things for our assessment.

Week 3 - Camera 1

I have always thought that when it comes to filming there are no quite difficult aspects of doing it but i was totally wrong... Behind every single video or movie there are lots of not that easy things to do. What I learnt from the third week of my module was that even assembling the camera is a very big challenge. Firstly, we were in a different room and we had to make a group of 3-4, go to Hires and Loans and borrow an equipment. Before setting up the camera there were some technical aspects and settings that we have to bear in mind too. We learnt other essential things such as: the importance of juxtaposition, white balance, zooming, adjusting the height and setting up the driver. What my group found it difficult was not coming up with an idea and shooting it but setting up the camera itself. I believe in time this will be improved.

Week 2 - Editing

The second week`s lesson started with revising our editing skills from the first week so I was able to refresh my memory and understand things that i couldn't. The main topic was connected to the editing as we were introduced the five major categories of edit types- Action, Screen Position, Form, Concept and Combined Edit. After that we moved on to audio editing and combining in video where one of the most important aspects are: cut, dissolve, wipe and fade. We used already recorded sounds, interviews and videos which I think was a very good practice. During the afternoon, we were working on our previous cuts and started putting effects.

Week 1 - Introduction and Editing 1

The first week of the TV Location Module was very good. We were united in a group of maybe 20 students in a room. Firstly, there were an introduction of the module and assignment briefs. After we were faced with Editing. I have never thought how important is to edit your videos in order to evoke emotion, create impact, lead the viewer and cut out the boring bits.

During the second part of the lesson our tutor - Olivia represented to us two programs which are really unfamiliar and new for me as I've never worked with editing tools - EditShare and Avid. Unfortunately, there was no free computer for me to log into my own directory but i hope next time this will be fixed.
